Too many of us fall prey to the idea that we just don’t have time to give back. The idea of volunteerism conjures up images of hours spent at soup kitchens or coughing up money from your checkbook. Luckily, there are other ways to be of service to populations in need. Some companies out there are committed to contributing to the world at large. You can give back in your own small way by buying goods and services from these brands. Even if you’re not doing any hard work, you can be sure your money is going towards a good cause. Plus, today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, so you’ll be doing your part to help mark the occasion.
Here’s a look at 5 companies that are doing their part to save the world.
Toms is one company that is well-known for its philanthropy. Their business practice is actually based on donating products to people in need. For every pair of shoes that is purchased, Toms donates a pair to a child in any of 60 different countries. So far, they’ve been able to donate more than 10 million pairs of shoes! They also recently launched Toms Eyewear with a similar goal. Every pair of glasses purchased is matched with the ‘gift of sight.’ That means that the funds are spent on a pair of prescription glasses, sight-saving surgery, or medical treatment for a needy person in one of 13 countries.
2. Warby Parker
Warby Parker has a similar donation program to Toms. For every pair of eyewear that is purchased, one pair is donated. They’ve already distributed over half a million pairs! The company also works to train low-income entrepreneurs so that they can open businesses selling glasses to customers who might not be able to afford expensive eyewear.
3. Life is good
Life is good runs The Playmakers, an organization dedicated to providing children with services to overcome poverty, violence, and illness. Since their start, they’ve worked with more than 310,000 children in the US. They also began working with children after the earthquake in Haiti in 2010. If you’d like to help raise funds for this group, you can Make a Donation or help support the company by purchasing their products. You can save on your order by using a Life is good coupon code too!
4. Trip Advisor
TripAdvisor goes about its charitable work through their employees. They provide their workers with three free lunches a week. Whatever money the employees save on food, they donate to a charity selected by the group. Employees also help local communities by taking on service projects (like painting schools). Additionally, TripAdvisor has a foundation which matches any monetary gifts or grants given by employees. A portion of the site’s profits also go to the foundation.
5. Burt’s Bees
Burt’s Bees is a well-respected brand for many reasons. Their products are made with natural ingredients, they focus on sustainability with their packaging, and they donate to several charities. Burt’s Bees Greater Good Foundation has also given away more than $1 million in grants to help groups dedicated to environmental efforts. Use a Burt’s Bees coupon, and you’ll be saving money and the environment at the same time.
However you decide to give back, let Random Acts of Kindness Day give you an excuse to do something charitable!
