Halloween is a great excuse to party. It’s a holiday that never loses its capacity for fun, no matter your age. But planning a night out for Halloween can be stressful. And expensive. Do you throw a party? Or do you know anyone that will be throwing a party? Or maybe a bar would be a better idea. Which one though? Maybe there’s already a Halloween party planned at your local watering hole and you need to make reservations. But there will probably be a cover charge and a line around the block, so you’ll need to plan accordingly.
Bleh. Every once in a while it’s fun to just boycott the bar scene and stay in. And out of all the holidays to stay in, Halloween is one of the best. Here’s why.
1. Halloween Movies
Old school classics like "Ghostbusters," "Hocus Pocus," and "The Addams Family" are timeless and really get you in the Halloween spirit. You could even turn any of these films into drinking games. Drink anytime Janine gives the "Ghostbusters" an eye roll or a sarcastic comment. Drink anytime the Black Flame Candle is mentioned in "Hocus Pocus." Or better yet, drink anytime you realize Uncle Fester is played by Christopher Lloyd in "The Addams Family." Because that still blows my mind.
And if you’re looking to take your evening to the next thrill level, turn on a horror movie. It’s Halloween, so any horror movie is appropriate.
2. Pumpkin Beer
Speaking of drinking, every holiday with a seasonal flavor should be celebrated with seasonal drinks available. Not every bar or friend's house will have seasonal drinks stocked, so swing by the store and grab some pumpkin beer (Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale is by far the best) and a few hard apple ciders and enjoy at home.
3. Take Out
I mean, is there anything better than having a delicious hearty meal delivered to your door? If you’re staying in for some much needed “you time” or you’ve got some friends staying in for the night with you, Seamless is the solution to your growling stomachs. Available in every major US city and surrounding neighborhoods, Seamless lets you place an order online with any participating restaurants that offer pickup or delivery, and they give you updates on your food until it arrives. You can even use a Seamless coupon code for additional savings on your order!
4. No Candy Limit
For some reason, it’s socially acceptable for children to gorge themselves on sugary treats, but it’s not okay for adults. Why? Who knows, but if you stay home, who cares? Have that eighth mini Milky Way bar. Americans young and old love sugar, so there’s no need to pretend that “those days are behind you” when it comes to candy overload on Halloween.
5. No Costume Needed
A new costume every year can put a strain on your budget. If you’re home and just hanging out, there’s no costume requirement. Come as you are, and enjoy your mellow evening in.
