Labor Day is just around the corner and everyone is making plans to celebrate the end of summer. “Awwwww.” I know, you guys. It went by far too quickly. Soon you’ll need to put your white pants away and eat dinner with the sun already set. But don’t dwell on the disappointing, terrible, horrifying reality that summer is almost a distant memory and instead, just embrace the final weekend you and summer have together.
Here are six ways to celebrate Labor Day that’ll leave you with enough fond memories to keep you warm through the cold, dark days of winter (which’ll be here before you know it).
1. Next to a large body of water
Don’t discriminate. Any large body of water will do. Whether it’s a pool, a lake, a river, or the ocean, just glob on some SPF, bring your water floats, and chill. That’s what summer is all about. Maybe steer clear of ponds, because that would just be strange.
2. On a road trip
I know what you’re thinking. Gas money, bumper-to-bumper traffic, sounds like a nightmare. Not if you travel by Megabus! Megabus sounds like the next trending predator in a cheesy sci-fi movie franchise, doesn’t it? But I assure you, unlike the stories of other fictional hybrid beasts, this will be a ride that you’ll truly enjoy.
Megabus is the first, low-cost, express bus service to offer city center-to-city center travel for as low as $1 through online booking. A double decker travel option that stops in over 100 cities in North America. You can still have all the fun a road trip brings, without the stress and expense of driving yourself. Make sure you use a Megabus discount code to really cash in on the savings.
3. In a tent
Get back to nature and rough it for the weekend. Camping is a great way to separate yourself from the bustle of your everyday environment and just go off the grid for a few days. Roast some s’mores, sit around the campfire, talk about how awesome it is that you made the campfire yourself, and then snuggle up in your sleeping bag. Just don’t leave the tent in the middle of the night to check on a strange noise. The best and worst case scenarios for that are both bad.
4. At the drive-in
It’s depressing to think that the generation just behind me probably doesn’t know what a drive-in is. There aren’t very many of these left so enjoy them while you can. Get some popcorn and go see a double feature. It’s definitely an experience you’ll enjoy.
5. Safely inside your house
Or you could create your own double feature movie night and stay in. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds and the traffic, try a mini stay-cation. It isn’t summer unless I’ve seen "Twister," and "The Sandlot," so that’s my plan for the weekend. I’ve already stocked up on popcorn, lemonade, and ingredients for s’mores, so I’m set.
6. On your computer, shopping like a pro
Don’t forget about the sales. You’ll see stores advertise outrageous in-store deals for Labor Day Weekend, but they’ll certainly offer online sales too. Start looking for deals in your emails, check out coupon codes, and shop smart from the comfort of your couch.
However you plan to celebrate Labor Day Weekend, make sure you go all out. Be safe, and relax. You’ve earned this 3-day holiday.
