Are you even American if your holiday celebration doesn’t end with the booms of a first person shooter game played under piles of hastily crumpled wrapping paper? In my family, it wasn’t Christmas unless my brother was blowing away aliens or fighting in foreign wars on screen by 9 a.m.
Most people have a gamer in their life (or are the gamer in their life) which means Black Friday can be a boon for gifting, since you will find tons of great deals on consoles and games. I’m not delving into the admirable or frustrating choice of both Playstation and Xbox to release new game systems only days before Black Friday. I’m assuming you have either pre-ordered your system at this point, or are taking a pass until the bugs are worked out and the price drops. Still, here are some recommendations on where to find the best deal for the gamer in your life on Black Friday.
Word on the street is that Gamestop is offering the hot deals for the gamer this season with their bundle deals. These bundles pair systems with in-demand games at a steep discount. Depending on supply and demand, you may be able to get the newest systems, but you will score the best deal by going with one of the legacy platform bundles, such as the PS3 or the Xbox 360 bundles. Gamestop’s legacy bundles get you a respectable gaming system plus two or more games under $200. That’s half the price of the PS4 or the Xbox One console alone, and feature titles like Arkham Asylum and Assassin’s Creed IV.
According to leaked Black Friday ads, Toys ”R” Us will be offering an equivalent deal to the Gamestop Bundles, with more interesting and high-demand games to sweeten the pot, so if you find yourself at a sold-out Gamestop, you know where to go next. More notably, however, Toys “R” Us will have a BOGO 40% off deal on new games, so if you choose to spring for the new Xbox One or the PS4, you can save some money on the back-end with discounted games, like Assassin’s Creed IV and Call of Duty.4:Ghosts.
For my money, if you want the best deals without the experience of camping outside a store or fighting in a line, you have to go to the source. If games are what you are after, you must check out Electronic Arts Games. EA is currently offering highly anticipated titles like Battlefield 4, and FIFA 14, not to mention best-loved titles like Mass Effect Trilogy and Sims. Historically, EA has offered 50-60% off their games starting at midnight on Black Friday, and there’s no reason to doubt they will continue the tradition this year. Paired with their free shipping offers, you would be crazy to skip out on EA this Black Friday.
As usual, don’t spend a penny more than you need to on gifts for the gamers in your life! Check store ads and sites before you hit the streets on Black Friday to score some sweet deals, and maybe some extra life.
