Last year, Luisaviaroma and UNICEF teamed up to auction off 25 adorable stuffed Pugs customized by celebrated fashion designers. All proceeds went to benefit Project ARISE (Appropriate Resources for Improving Street Children’s Environment) in Bangladesh.
Contributing fashion houses to the genius idea included Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Valentino, and 21 more. The couture inspired pups were then auctioned in collaboration with the One Foundation on eBay and TaoBao. The combined proceeds raised over 30,000 Euros to help street children in Bangladesh and mainland China.
Before the stuffed Pugs were auctioned off, they were adopted by the industry’s top fashion bloggers. This made it more special when they were sold during the weeks in March of 2012. The highest bid went out to the Vogue Pug for €4,210. The lowest was for the Francesco Scognamiglio Pug for €146, which is still a lot of money for a stuffed dog.
Bangladesh is a coastal nation in Central Asia that is one of the most densely populated areas of the world. To make matters more complicated, it happens to be in the path of many natural disasters, especially floods. In impoverished urban areas the growth of children living in the streets is a serious problem. Project Arise aims to reintegrate them into society through education and vocational training.
Despite the absurdity of auctioning off a random animal in designer apparel, the auction did raise money for a great cause. Luisiaviaroma is more than a source of upscale fashions for men, women, and children. Or their flagship store in Italy and online shop with awesome promotions and deals. Or the exclusive behind the scenes footage from Italian fashion week. They also bring attention to important world issues.
Watch out for these trendy collectors items. You never know what animal they might auction next.
