Robot Floor Cleaner Helps Stay-at-home Dad

Robots are cool. Cleaning the floor is not. Unless robots are intent on enslaving the human race, they do not suck. Cleaning the floor does. Plus, think about it – isn’t cleaning the floor actually a form of enslavement? Hmm. So, with these thoughts in mind, my decision to get a robot to clean the floor for me was an easy one to make.

I wanted something that both swept and washed, like a wet / dry combo. We have hardwood floors, so it didn’t have to be able to vacuum. Plus, it had to be thin enough to be able to get under stuff, like sofas, chairs, desks, coffee tables, etc. What’s the point of having to move things around first? That would kind of defeat the purpose of saving me time, wouldn’t it?

Finally, it had to be affordable, said my wife, like “Under $200.” She then may have mumbled, “I was just being lazy.” I then may have mumbled something back at her like, “Look, do you want clean floors or not?” Anyway...

Now which one to buy, and from where? I sat down at my computer and googled “Best robot floor cleaners.” EVOLUTION ROBOTICS Mint Robotic Floor Cleaner pops up at the top of the list on the Best Buy website.

I compared the price and features to others offered there (like ones from iRobot and iTouchless)) to see if it met all of my aforementioned criteria, which I will list again, and it did – the others did not. See for yourself:

Does it sweep?

  • Mint Robotic Floor Cleaner – Yes.
  • iRobot Braava 380T – No.
  • iTouchless AV002A – Yes.

Does it wash?

  • Mint Robotic Floor Cleaner - Yes.
  • iRobot Braava 380T – Yes.
  • iTouchless AV002A – No.

Is it thin?

  • Mint Robotic Floor Cleaner – Yes, 3 1/8 in.
  • iRobot Braava 380T – Yes, 3 1/8 in.
  • iTouchless AV002A – Yes, 3 1/4 in.

Does it cost less than $200?

  • Mint Robotic Floor Cleaner – Yes, $179.99.
  • iRobot Braava 380T – No, $299.99.
  • iTouchless AV002A – No, $299.99.

So there you go. The Mint was the hands-down winner. What’s more, he got a 4.3 out of 5 star rating, he featured NorthStar navigation, ran 3 hours on a single charge, and was touted as being as “quiet as a church mouse.” He also would park back his starting spot when he finished doing my cleaning for me done and let me know with a friendly “Beep, Beep!”

Oh, and there was another one there that met all of the criteria and was actually a little cheaper, but it only got a 2.2 rating and had tons of bad reviews. I guess you get what you pay for.

Now, wanting to make sure I was getting a good price on it, I checked it out on Amazon. A little comparing showed that $179.99 was a darn good deal. Plus, after searching for coupons I could use when buying it, I found out I could get free shipping and a $15 Best Buy Gift Card if I bought it online from them. Sold and sold.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then how much is a video worth? Heck if I know, but take a look at the little fella in action – isn’t he cute?! In a very manly way, of course.

My kids have named him “Hugo” and he’s now a part of the family. I love him. Get one. You won’t be sorry. Oh, and so far, he has not tried to enslave the human race. Fingers crossed.
