Anyone who’s read my Thrifty Girl blogs knows that I’m obsessed with finding a good deal. In fact, I generally get an endorphin rush not from exercising but from discovering bargain prices. So, who do I look to for budget fashion inspiration? The following 10 blogs give me continuously awesome ideas on where to shop, which trends to follow, and general advice on how to look just plain fabulous - all on a broke girl’s budget!
CheapChicas.com is run by the ultra-stylish Lilliana Vazquez and is full of trend reports and daily deals to help you get your fashion fix. I also love the Look for Less posts, which showcases celebrity looks that you can copy for much less (including everything from clothes and shoes to jewelry and makeup). Vazquez is also frequently featured on television (on shows like “New York Live” and “The Today Show”), and the videos are always available on the site for your viewing pleasure.
This blog is dedicated to helping you be “fab without a fortune.” They do this with daily posts giving you ideas on how to reproduce celebrity looks, redo your home, and follow fashion trends all while on a budget. Need help styling a particular item? The Budget Babe provides readers with a “How to Wear” tool on their homepage, so you can easily create fab outfits without a ton of cash.
Just because you’re broke doesn’t mean you can’t look amazing. Broke But Bougie offers fashion stories that will give you inspiration on which trends to try. But the site doesn’t just offer fashion posts - they also cover lifestyle, beauty, and food stories to help make you a more well-rounded person overall. Because you definitely need more delicious recipes in your life, right?
Want all the latest fashion info about hot trends to try and awesome deals to take advantage of? The Budget Fashionista is the site for you. Their posts cover everything from fashion and celebrities to beauty and accessories. They even offer handy style guides if you need advice on what to wear to a certain event or how to style a specific piece of clothing. Basically, if you’re feeling lost in the fashion world, The Budget Fashionista can steer you towards style perfection.
At first I was a little intimidated by Taylor Sterling’s blog, The Glitter Guide. My food does not turn out like the cookbook pictures, and I probably won’t ever throw as immaculate a party as Taylor does. But, once I got over the fact that The Glitter Guide might be for girls way cooler than me, I am now able to totally enjoy their posts. I love the stories like “Budget Buys Under $100” and “Editor Obsessions,” which fill me in on items that I should be coveting. Oh, and their Recipe section is to die for!
6. Penny Chic
I started following the Penny Chic blog awhile ago, and now the founder, Shauna, is blowing up on the scene (she has a new book out and appears often on television shows like “Good Day LA.” I love how simple the posts are - you can easily discover where to buy hot fashion items at retailers you can actually afford to shop at. I’ve definitely run to Kohls and Target after seeing some of the pieces featured on the Penny Chic site.
7. Trend Hungry
This blog is a new (happy) discovery for me. The brains behind the operation is Jessie Holeva, who provides posts letting you in on celebrity trends and steals of the week (which can tip you off to some great bargains!). There are definitely some unique features, like suggestions for what not to wear, that make the site super fun to read. Although Trend Hungry doesn’t post as many stories as some other fashion blogs, the content they do put up is stellar!
Not many fashion blogs focus on plus-size gals, so I love Shop Girl Daily for including stories that apply to women of all sizes! The site offers a great deal of variety too, including posts on where to find budget beauty products, ebooks, and accessories. They even include giveaways and freebies you can snag, which is good since I love me some free stuff.
I usually steer clear of blogs that feature glossy fashion pics, simply because the looks often seem too hard to obtain to me. The exception to this is Penny Pincher Fashion, because all of the items showcased in the photos are actually affordable (and are always listed at the end of each blog post). Plus, many of their series (like “20 Under $20” and “Steals Under $30”) make it easy to discover awesome deals (thus making my heart very happy).
Since their motto is “your style is never determined by your wallet,” I can really relate to the Looking Fly on a Dime’s posts. They put some unique spins on their articles (like fall fashion trends you can find at a thrift store), so I never feel like I’m reading content I can find on other sites.
So, get to reading these fantastic blogs now!
