Fashion inspiration can be found wherever you look (store windows, blogs, magazines). But, one of my favorite places for style ideas is on television. Yes, we’re in the Golden Age of TV, where nearly every show airing has at least one ultra stylish lady giving us major fashion realness. Here’s a list of the top 10 most fashionable ladies currently on TV.
1. Taraji P. Henson, “Empire”
As Cookie Lyon, Taraji P. Henson is burning up the small screen right now. With her fabulous fur coats and to-die-for stilettos, every episode of this amazing soap opera-like drama features her in one amazing outfit after another. There are even blog articles devoted to breaking down her looks every day after a new episode airs.
2. Kerry Washington, “Scandal”
Ms. Washington’s character, Olivia Pope, might be in a messy affair with the President, but her style game is on point. Her impeccable outfits (featuring smart suits and stellar coats) even inspired a recent collaboration with The Limited. So, you can also dress the part of a Washington D.C. fixer if you’d like!
3. Julianna Margulies, “The Good Wife”
Julianna Margulies’ character, Alicia Florrick, knows how to make office clothes look super fashion-forward. From her suit skirts to her not-so-sensible heels, this gal sure proves that what you wear to work can be just as stylish as what you wear on the weekend. So, she also looks great when she’s not in the courtroom.
4. Robin Wright, “House of Cards”
It’s not just network and cable TV that are offering up some great fashion picks. Netflix is also serving up amazing style with Robin Wright’s character, Claire Underwood. Each season she wears something so classy and elegant that you’ll have yourself rushing to the store to pick up a fancy dress or gown (even if you have nowhere to wear it).
5. Lucy Hale, “Pretty Little Liars”
Okay, technically, Lucy Hale’s Aria Montgomery plays a teenager on “PLL,” but she makes the list of most stylish women because she’s actually 25 in real life! Aria gets the best outfits out of a whole cast of actresses wearing awesome clothes, mostly because her style is quirky and unique. Rep your “PLL” love with a rad t-shirt from TV Store Online, and use a coupon code for stylish savings!
6. Mindy Kaling, “The Mindy Project”
A lot of women are afraid to wear bright colors or mixed prints. But, not Mindy Kaling as Mindy Lahiri! That girl knows how to rock pretty much any kind of outfit, giving the rest of us confidence that we can try mixing stripes with florals if we so choose!
7. Michelle Dockery, “Downton Abbey”
Just because it’s set in the Roaring 1920s doesn’t mean Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary Crawley doesn’t have a fantastic sense of style. In fact, the long necklaces and flapper-girl dresses are coming back into style currently because they’re so timeless!
8. Keri Russell, “The Americans”
You would think that the ‘80s weren’t a great time for fashion, but surprisingly, Keri Russell’s Elizabeth Jennings has some good clothing options to share. Knee boots and cozy sweaters never go out of fashion, right?
9. January Jones, “Mad Men”
The ‘60s, on the other hand, were an excellent period for style greatness. Although the series is nearing an end, January Jones’ Betty Draper has had many amazing fashion moments over the course of the show - from repressed housewife dresses to mod gowns. (FYI: this show also inspired a fashion line at Banana Republic!)
10. Emilia Clarke, “Game of Thrones”
Not all fashion inspiration has to be traditional. In fact, “GoT” is the farthest you can get away from my world, but I love Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys flowy gown-over-pants combinations and gorgeous use of color. Although I don’t have any dragons to tame, I’d steal her closet any day. TV Store Online also has tons of “GoT” gear, including a Daenerys costume!
Even if you don’t own a wardrobe full of fancy clothes, let these ladies serve as your guides to fashion greatness!
