A lot of times a breakout makes you feel like you need to just scrub and scrub your skin into submission. But the truth is that a gentler and more natural approach is more likely to be successful. In fact, often times breakouts are caused by your skin being too dry (perhaps from harsh chemical cleansers) and overcompensating by producing more oil. What you really need to do to prevent breakouts is treat your skin gently! Start by trying these all-natural homemade face masks:
Remember! Whenever you’re trying new skincare products, always test them first on a small patch of your skin to make sure your skin won’t react.
Turmeric Face Mask
Turmeric isn’t just a spice that makes your favorite Indian dishes taste great, it can also do a lot for your skin. Some of the benefits of turmeric for the skin are reducing redness, promoting healing, and helping reduce oil secretion.
2 Tbsp organic greek yogurt
1 Tbsp organic honey
1 Tbsp organic turmeric
1 Tbsp coconut flour
mixing bowl & measuring spoon
Mix the ingredients together to form a paste. You can add more yogurt or honey to adjust the consistency of your face mask. Before applying the mask, wash your face with a gentle cleanser – I recommend an all-natural organic one like the Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser. Then apply the mask to your face (avoiding your eyes) and wait 15-20 minutes until it starts drying. After 20 minutes, rinse off the mask using your face cleanser.
Lemon & Honey Face Mask
Lemon juice and honey are both powerful ingredients for cleansing and brightening skin and getting rid of breakouts. Lemon juice is a natural exfoliant, which gets rid of dead skin cells on your face that might clog pores if left alone. Honey’s natural antibacterial properties help fight off acne-causing bacteria.
1/2 organic lemon
1 tsp organic apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp organic honey
Dilute with 1 Tbsp + of filtered water
Mix the ingredients together, adding more or less honey and water to adjust the consistency of your face mask. Before applying to your face, test a patch on your hand. If you feel more than just a little tingling, you may want to add more water to dilute the mixture. Then apply the mask to your face after washing it, making sure to avoid your eyes. Wait 5-10 minutes, then rinse it off with your cleanser.
In A Hurry?
You’re not always going to have time to run to the grocery store and whip up your own homemade face mask, alas. On those days, you might want to have a backup available so that your skincare routine doesn’t have to suffer just because you’re busy. It’s best to choose an all-natural, organic solution to avoid irritating your skin with chemicals.
When it comes to face masks, I like the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel. It’s appropriate for most types of skin and is organic and juice-based. It exfoliates your skin leaving it brighter with a more even tone. If you opt to order it online and save even more time, make sure you use a coupon to get a lower price.
Use the Green Apple Peel by applying it generously all over your face with either your finger or a facial brush. Leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with your cleanser. Your skin should feel tight and clean.
