The Truth About Face Oils

If you have oily skin like me, you’re probably anti face oil. Why would you add oil to your already-greasy skin? Well it turns out, face oils can actually help reduce oil! They’re quickly becoming the latest beauty rage, and almost all of my favorite brands have been coming out with their own face oil products.

Before I tried face oils, I completely steered clear of makeup and beauty products that had oil in them because I thought they would make me break out. Well, I did some research and read tons of great reviews about all the benefits of face oils, so I decided to suck it up and give them a try.

For the last three months, I have been testing out several top face oils on the market. The results have been amazing! My skin soaks up the antioxidant-rich oil and stays hydrated and glowy throughout the day. I use it morning and night (after any serums but before applying sunscreen), and my skin looks totally revitalized.

There are plenty of reasons face oils are changing the beauty game.

  • Because they use oil to fight oil, the products actually help manage sebum (which clogs your pores and prevents you from having clear skin).

  • They also hydrate and replenish your skin – giving you that glow I was talking about earlier.

  • These products even contain fatty and omega 3 acids, so they can help stave off signs of premature aging (goodbye fine lines!).

  • Also, by encouraging natural collagen production, your skin stays firm instead of allowing wrinkles to creep in.

So, now that you know the magical properties of face oils, here’s a breakdown of my three current faves.

1. Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil Light

I’m obsessed with this Josie Maran face oil, because it makes my skin look totally smooth and radiant. It’s unscented, so it doesn’t have a cool, floral scent like my other fave, Boscia (see below). However, it’s super lightweight when you apply it, so you can use it under your makeup (or instead of if you feel like going natural). If the $48 price tag at Sephora freaks you out, just use a Sephora coupon code for some extra savings. You can also get the smaller bottle (.5 oz) for just $14. It’s the perfect size to keep in your purse or for travelling.

2. Boscia Tsubaki Beauty Oil

This Boscia beauty oil has become one of my faves because of its fresh, floral smell. Because of the camellia oil and wakame (Japanese sea kelp) ingredients, this product actually helps repair past damage done to your skin and replenishes essential oils that can be stripped away during cleansing. The rice bran oil also completely eliminates grease and leaves my skin perfectly moisturized before I apply makeup. The Boscia beauty oil lasts all day on my skin without becoming too oily, so it’s perfect for anyone who has acne-prone or oily skin.

3. Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil

Tarte’s beauty oil has quickly become a fan favorite and is made from 100% pure organic maracuja (passion fruit) oil. This oil works to rebuild and repair your skin cells and helps your skin look more radiant. All you have to do is apply 2 or 3 drops in your hands, rub them together, and then pat on clean, dry skin. Do this every night, and you’ll be super happy with the results. In fact, according to one study, more than 96% of women saw visible improvement in just 6 weeks!

This oil also works to soften your cuticles, hydrate dry skin and rough patches, and help tame flyaways and condition split ends. Talk about a multi-tasking product! I love that it comes in three different sizes at Sephora: .6 oz, 1.7 oz, and 3.4 oz.

Don’t be afraid to try face oils – I guarantee you’ll love what you see! Check out my video below for more details about these amazing products!
