Thrifty Girl's Haul at American Eagle

When I was in high school, one of the coolest places to shop was American Eagle. As a Southern California native, their clothes were an essential mix of laid back and classic styles. I get occasional emails from the site, so I decided to see if American Eagle could still get my shopping juices flowing for my next Thrifty Girl mission. With a budget of $50, I set out to see how many cool pieces I could snag. Read on to see my complete haul.

Step 1: Head to

I hit up American Eagle’s homepage to see what exciting options they’re currently offering. Usually, the items that are within my budget are found in the Clearance department, so this is my first stop.

Step 2: Shop Clearance section.

As soon as I click on the Clearance tab, this is the first thing I see!

Um, 40% off every item?! Yes please! First, I set the filter to “Sort: Price Low to High,” so I’ll only see the most inexpensive products. Also, I’ll stick to items under $20, so I can get the most bang for my buck.

The first top I fall in love with is the Floral Aloha Tank. I just got back from a vacation in Hawaii, and I’ll do anything to recreate that casual, tropical vibe. With the discount, this top will go from $14.99 to $8.99. Perfect!

Even though it’s currently almost 95 degrees here in LA, I can never pass up a good bargain on winter clothes. This Mixed Knit Donegal Sweater was originally $49 when it first hit the site. But the current discount brings it all the way down to $11.99 - a low price you rarely find for sweaters!

I’m always looking for cute, feminine skirts. I love the button details on the Jersey Circle Skirt, and with a final price tag of $11, this piece definitely has a home in my closet!

I’ve pretty much exhausted the clothes that fit my budget, so I head to the Accessories in the Clearance section. I come across this Geo Printed Beanie, which I am now obsessed with! With the discount, the price goes all the way down to $5.99! Yay!

I can never pass up a good package deal, and the Bling Earring Set is no exception. Basically, you’re getting 6 pairs of earrings for just $5.99! Almost too good to be true!

At this point, I’m almost at the limit of my budget. However, I still have a couple of bucks to spend. This Bright Print Sock 2-Pack is a great purchase - cozy and comfortable for just $5.99!

After reviewing my shopping cart, I see I’ve snagged some amazing savings. Without the Clearance discount, I would have spent $84.94 on merchandise. That comes down to $34 in savings! My total is $50.94 - exactly what I wanted to spend!

Step 3: Check CouponPal for additional promotions.

My final stop is over to CouponPal to see if there are any other deals I might have missed.

They’re offering free shipping on orders over $50 and that 40% off Clearance discount that I already saw. I don’t even have to worry about entering any coupon codes at checkout - these discounts are included automatically!

Step 4: Checkout.

Since I spent $50, I qualify for free shipping! So, my total (with stupid tax) is $55.52.

This month’s breakdown of goods from American Eagle:

  • 1 tank = $8.99

  • 1 sweater = $11.99

  • 1 skirt = $11.99

  • 1 beanie = $5.99

  • 6 pairs of earrings = $5.99

  • 2 pairs of socks = $5.99

Total = $50.94 (+ tax = $55.52)

I’d say this was a pretty good haul, considering some of the items at American Eagle can be pretty expensive! Check out the next installment of Thrifty Girl to see what store I tackle next month!
