Identity theft strikes when you least expect it. It can happen when you pay at your favorite restaurant or make an ill-fated swap on a music-sharing site. There’s no telling whether it will attack on or offline. That’s why LifeLock has developed an advanced system to proactively monitor your personal information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and even that extra day on leap year! Their five-pronged protection plan works to monitor your identity, scan for threats, respond to identity theft, and track your credit score. The company is so confident their experts can keep your identity guarded that they offer a $1 million guarantee to hire experts, lawyers, investigators, and consultants to help recover your identity should something go awry.

LifeLock brings the same technology employed by government intelligence agencies and mega-corporations to their personal protection. The platform monitors reports from three separate credit bureaus, provides checking and savings account alerts, detects malicious networks and file-sharing sites, and examines personal information from a comprehensive network of private databases. They even provide a help center online to better understand identity theft and best practices to stay safe. In the event that something goes wrong, their relentless team of resolution professionals will be on the case and at your disposal.

LifeLock partners with the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Association and National Organization for Victim Assistance to ensure the quality of their services. They have been awarded Level 1 status from the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard as well as status as a TRUSTe member. Their experts cover all the angles. Key advisors include Kevin Mitnik (a.k.a. “The World’s Most Famous [Former] Hacker”), members of VeriSign, American Express, and top-level government agencies. No matter where the threat lurks, LifeLock’s team has the tools and experience to stay ahead of attacks and keep them far away from your data.

LifeLock has been on patrol since 2005 and has quickly gained a reputation for performance. The Red Herring named it one of the Top 100 startups in the world back in 2008. Since then, the International Business Awards honored the company for its work educating law enforcement officials about the latest trends in identity theft. The accolades just keep coming as this award-winning company continually improves their service and stays ahead of the criminals to keep customers satisfied and safe.

While LifeLock works tirelessly to keep your identity under lock and key, we have been building a custom relationship with the security masters to help you save. CouponPal proudly offers our users exclusive LifeLock promo codes to cut the cost of protection. Take advantage of these amazing savings and get the protection you need before it’s too late.

Think You’re Safe on Your Smartphone? Think Again.

If you believe that your conversations, surfing habits, identity, and personal info are secure and private while you’re on your cellphone, you are dead wrong. Just ask Prince Harry and The News of The World, or the NSA for that matter.

LifeLock, which provides identity theft protection services for consumers, recently released a survey it undertook in August that revealed many disturbing facts about smartphone users’ and their ignorance of mobile threats. In a nutshell, here’s what they found:

  • 19% percent use their phones to check bank information on public Wi-Fi
  • 35% allow their social network apps to know the GPS location of their phone
  • 36% believe they are more likely to have their car stolen than their identity stolen (identity fraud affected 12.6 million people last year, compared to fewer than 1 million cars which were stolen)
  • 36% do not use protection for their smartphone
  • 40% don’t even know how to protect themselves
  • 41% percent left their phones in parked cars
  • 44% have a personal banking or finance app on their phone
  • 45% percent of users admitted to leaving their phones unattended at their office
  • 70% fail to check app and website security credentials
  • 71% think losing their wallet is a bigger risk for identity theft than losing a smartphone

All these numbers add up to a real potential payday for identity thieves. Take a minute to check out your own phone and you may be amazed by all of the info on their that could lead to big problems for you if your phone was lost, stolen, or hacked.

So, what to do? First off, install some protection on all of your mobile devices like the kind Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee, and others offer. Next, (and always) practice these safety tips help keep yourself secure:

  • Protect your devices with a very strong password
  • Make sure all apps use different passwords and usernames
  • Don’t allow downloaded apps to access your GPS location
  • Delete all of your personal information from a device before upgrading or replacing it
  • Know how to lock and wipe your device remotely
  • Avoid sending personal info over public Wi-Fi
  • Password-protect your passwords themselves

That last tip is often overlooked but may be the most important thing you can do to keep you and your info safe. Install a password manager and/or other apps that encrypt private information. Besides the additional security this provides, it also lets you only have to remember one password to access all of your other ones.

But, alas, even if you take all the precautions possible, identity theft could still happen. Unlike security software makers who protect your devices and your identity from being stolen, LifeLock Identity Theft Protection protects you even if it IS stolen. Subscribe and they’ll spend up to $1 million to help your recovery if that happens. That’s why getting LifeLock (using a discount) is such a good idea – because you can never be too careful.

Along with advances in technology, it has become surprisingly easy for someone to steal your identity. You know to lock your car doors or set your alarm system before you leave the house. But are you protected against someone stealing your social security number or opening credit cards in your name? LifeLock is here to protect the one thing you value most - your identity. Here are just five ways LifeLock ensures your safety.

1. Monitors Your Identity

As soon as you sign up with LifeLock, they begin monitoring your identity by contacting major credit bureaus and removing your name from mailing lists that could pose a threat. You have 24/7 access to your alerts anytime you sign into your account at LifeLock. They also scan public and court records to see if anything comes up matching your name. You get a monthly report letting you know exactly what LifeLock has looked into on your behalf.

2. Scans for Identity Threats

Part of your protection package at LifeLock is that they’ll go over any credit or non-credit applications you fill out to make sure everything is legitimate. They’ll search criminal websites to check to see if any of your personal information has been sold. LifeLock’s extensive network also scans to see if anyone has opened a bank account or credit card in your name.

3. Responds to Identity Threats

It’s helpful that LifeLock alerts you to any unusual activity under your name, but they go a step further and help you actually deal with these potential threats. Anytime your bank account information is altered, they’ll send you a notification (you can then let them know it was you who made the changes or have them investigate suspicious activity.) Their agents can also help if your wallet has been stolen - they’ll automatically cancel and replace all the contents that were taken! Plus, they offer phone support any time of the day or night, so there’s always some place you can go to for help!

4. Tracks Your Credit Score

Not only do they provide you with a free credit score, LifeLock also monitors three other credit bureaus to make sure there aren’t any irregularities. They’ll notify you immediately if any of these reports show actions that were made by identity thieves.

5. Provides You with Identity Theft Insurance

You never have to worry about not receiving the best services at LifeLock. They offer a $1 Million Total Service Guarantee. This means if your identity is ever stolen, a team member from LifeLock will spend up to $1 million to hire experts, lawyers, or investigators to help assist your recovery. They’ll also assign a remediation specialist to help you along the way. All of these benefits are provided under a zero deductible identity theft insurance policy. This plan protects you from fraudulent withdrawals, lost wages, and document replacement fees. LifeLock will also help you pay for child and/or elderly care or travel expenses related to the identity theft.

There’s nothing as valuable as having peace of mind. LifeLock lets you relax knowing that your identity is being protected against any threats. Use your LifeLock promo code to earn savings for your secure future.

4 Steps to Protect Your Identity

These days, identity theft has become more common than ever. So how can you protect yourself? Besides enrolling with LifeLock to protect your personal information, there are several other steps you can take to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft. Here are four simple things you can do to help ensure the security of your identity.

1. Shop Secure

Whenever you shop online, make sure you’re shopping at a site that has a security seal and a secure web address. The URL should read “https://” instead of “http://” – the “s” tells you it’s secure. On Google Chrome, this part of the URL will appear in green. Only shop on sites that have a secure address. You should also avoid shopping online while using public WiFi networks. Your credit card information is more vulnerable if you share it while using public wireless. Save your shopping for while you’re at home, using a private WiFi network that you trust.

2. Keep IDs Safe

Keep your government IDs where you can find them, and know where they are at all times. This means keeping track of your wallet of course, but your passport and Social Security Card are also critically important. Since you don’t use these documents very often, it can be easy to misplace them or forget where they are, but don’t let this happen to you – then if they go missing, you may not even notice. LifeLock.com suggests locking up your important IDs in a safe or a locked drawer, so you always know where they are.

3. Stay Alert

Some identity thieves don’t bother to take the high-tech route. They’ll rely on looking over your shoulder while you enter credit card information online or taking note of your credit card number while you pay at a store to steal your information. It’s easier than ever for someone to snap a quick picture of your ID or credit card while you’re looking away. Whenever you’re using your credit card or take out your ID for some reason, make sure you’re aware of your surroundings.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you should only share your personal information when it is absolutely necessary, especially your Social Security Number. When you are asked for sensitive pieces of information on forms (especially ones like job applications and doctor’s forms), ask if this information is necessary before giving it. If the information is not indispensable, then don’t give it.

4. Shred Personal Documents

Some identity thieves employ the old-school method of dumpster-diving in order to get their information. If you throw away mail, forms, or other papers that carry your personal information, you’re at risk for these types of identity thieves. The best way to protect yourself against this method is by shredding any documents that contain your personal information, even just your name and address.

When will you learn?! There are a lot of different things that count as identity theft, and you should not take the term literally. It is not possible for someone to steal your actual self, they can however, impersonate you illegally for their own personal gain.

Some different kinds of fraud include posing as another person, using someone's personal information to obtain credit for goods and services, pretending to be someone else to get free medical treatment, or using a child's identity for any of the above.

If someone steals your identity, you need to act quickly. This will be easy because you will be pretty angry when you discover a large depletion of funds or receive an erroneous bill for thousands of dollars. But, it will take a lot of extra time out of your life to clear up.

LifeLock is in the business of securing identities, so we went to them to find out what to do in the event of identity theft or fraud.

Step 1) Contact one of the three major credit bureaus. They are required by law to contact the other two bureaus to notify them of the situation.

  • Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

  • Experian: 1-888-397-3742

  • TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289

Step 2) Report the crime to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and any other government agencies involved.

  • If you believe the incident involved a Change of Address Form, contact the United States Postal Service.

  • If your social security number is compromised contact the Social Security Administration.

  • Victims of tax or employment fraud, contact the Internal Revenue Service.

Step 3) Notify your bank and credit card company to initiate the appropriate process.

Step 4) Contact any outside businesses that were involved. For example, if someone is falsely charging HDTV’s under your name, the electronics retailer needs to be aware of the security breach.

Step 5) File a police report at your local department, as well as the community where the identity theft occurred.

If you act in a timely fashion, they may be able to catch the scumbag who stole your identity. After that, you will have an option to press charges, and contact your attorney. It will be a huge hassle. Then maybe you will finally be ready for a Lifelock promo code, so you can sign up for a protection plan.

Life isn’t always easy, or happy, or risk-free. And as much as you’d like to believe that people are inherently good, there are some real-life villains who lurk in the shadows. Identity thieves certainly fall into the real-life villain category. They are out there, and there are tons of them – just waiting to snatch up a sliver of personal information about you and destroy your life. But we are not defenseless in this ongoing fight. As long as we have LifeLock on our side, our identities are safe from these monsters.

Here are four reasons we love LifeLock.

1. Less work to do

If you’re a vigilant bank account checker, credit score scanner, and identity theft stresser-outer, you can finally rest easy and spend your time more efficiently. A policy with LifeLock includes monitoring of your credit score, 24/7 access to credit and court records, scanning identity threats, and tracking any changes in your credit score overtime that would indicate theft activity. They do the digging for you and are always on the lookout for predators ready to pounce.

2. Peace of mind

Even if you’re one to avoid email phishing scams, keep your personal info as hidden as possible, and you’re checking your credit score on the regular, there are still ways for identity theft to occur. Sometimes, without you knowing until it’s too late. Because of the complete protection LifeLock offers, and the reports and data they’re constantly eyeing, the chances are slim that your identity will be in any real theft danger as long as you’re a LifeLock member.

3. Endless support

If your bank account information gets altered, LifeLock representatives are all over it. They will immediately notify you of bank account changes and they’ll provide support in getting replacement cards if needed. They’ll also be there for you if your wallet gets stolen. LifeLock agents will automatically cancel and replace all the contents that were taken and they’re just a phone call away – day or night.

4. Theft defenders on your side

With a LifeLock insurance policy, any incidents of theft will be handled by their defense team and covered by their $1 Million Total Service Guarantee. This means that a team member from LifeLock will spend up to $1 million to hire experts, lawyers, or investigators to help assist your recovery. You’ll also get a remediation specialist to help you through the process.

These benefits are provided under a zero deductible identity theft insurance policy. The LifeLock insurance plan protects you from fraudulent withdrawals, lost wages, and document replacement fees. They will also help you pay for child and/or elderly care or travel expenses related to the identity theft.

LifeLock is the identity theft angel on your shoulder. They want you to go out enjoy your life, worry-free. You deserve it.
